Brief description: The Gas-phase chromatograph allows separating complex mixture of materials in their components.
The fluid that consists out of different chemical compounds is injected into a fine capillary column by an injector for the investigation. This column material is similar to glass and inside coated with chemical modified polysiloxane layer.
The capillary column has a length of 30 m and an inner diameter of 0.32 mm. The polysiloxane layer has a thickness of only 0.1 µm.
The column is mounted in a thermal adjustable oven. Hydrogen is permanent flowing through the column as carrier gas. As soon as a sample gets into the column, it becomes vaporized and it`s single components are carried from the carrier gas trough the column.
Depending to their structure and the oven temperature their resistance time on the surface of the column is different and they are going to be split according to their boiling temperature. A detector registers the single components, when they leave the column. The detector draws the single elements into a diagram. The later a component comes to the exit of the column, the higher is the boiling temperature. The area below a peak from the Gas-phase chromatograph is proportional to the amount of the component in the mixture.
Statement:   It’s possible to get information about distillation range for diesel fuel, initial boiling point, the steamed amount in % (V/V) for 250°C and for 350°C. Additionally the temperature, when 95% (V/V) is steamed and the final boiling point are measured.
Furthermore the content of biodiesel and other contamination can be determined. For oils (e. g. amount of rapseed oil in engine oils) intermixtures or short-chain crack products from heat carrier oil can be determined. But also other contaminations can be detected with the help of the distillation range.
