About 0,4 ml
Unit: 4 categories from no to high water content
Operating time: About 5 minutes
Analysis of: All kinds of oils
Test result: Water content
Brief description: A drop of the oil is dropped on the hot heating plate. If there is any water in the liquid it steams with a crackling noise and visible steam bubbles. The water content is estimated by an experienced technician.
Statement:   The crackle test is used for all oil. It is possible to estimate the presence of water in a quick, easy and cost-effective way. The crackle test is used as a “screening” test in addition to IR spectroscopy (water content in %) and Karl Fischer method (water content in ppm). Mostly an oil change is necessary if the crackle test shows a high water content.
