| OELCHECK Test equipment: | Flender Foam Tester |
| Sample quantity needed: | 1 Liter |
| Unit: | % |
| Test result: | Increase of volume by oil-air-dispersion and creation of foam. |
| Operating time: | About 3 hours |
| Analysis of: | Gear- and circulation oil |
| Brief description: | Lubricant is filled into the Flender foam apparatus until a horizontal spur gear pairing is dipped half of the face side.
The gears start to turn for 5 minutes with a speed of 1405 rpm and splash air in the oil like a mixer. The increase of volume caused by the oil air suspension is measured in % directly after stopping the gears. Within the following 90 minutes the change of the oil phase, the oil-dispersion and the volume of foam is documented in percent. |
| Statement: | Practical test for the foam characteristic of lubricants. Increased foaming can have a negative impact on the load carrying capacity of lubricants in gears and bearings, capacity based level sensors can be affected and will deliver wrong information about the oil level and foam is a good insulator and can cause temperature increases. |
