| Brief description: | OELCHECK works with the AES-method according to the Rotrode-principle. In less than 1 min. parts of a 2 ml sample which stick to a small graphite spark wheel are heated up to 8000°C in an arc which is ignited at about 40.000 Volt. The energy
(= temperature) added causes each single element to emit light which is characteristic for its metal. The light beam is split in its spectral coulours (principle of rainbow) by a crystal grid (principle of a prisma). In a dark room photocells are arranged in a special radius behind outlet slots. Due to this arrangement the photocells are allowed to absorb only that light which is characteristic for the corresponding element. The change of electric current caused by the intensity of light is converted, within the photocells, into the mass of all metals included in the sample. |
||
| Statement: | The AES is able to determine reliably and reproducibly up to 21 wear metals, contaminations and additives. Depending on the structure of the particles they can be found in oil only up to a size of 5 µm. Larger particles deposit too quickly in the oil or don't get enough impulses by the arc. The determination does not depend from the viscosity of the oil and is made also at dark or black oils. Components of lubricating greases and residues can also easily be determined with this method. The sample has then to be put directly on the graphite electrode. | ||
